Mitchell v. Snider
New York City Civil Court
51 Misc. 3d 1229 (2016)
- Written by Brianna Pine, JD
Facts
Christopher Mitchell (plaintiff) sued his ex-girlfriend, Madeline Snider (defendant), seeking to recover possession of a five-year-old black Labrador retriever named Django. Mitchell alleged that he was the dog’s sole owner and sought to recover monetary damages for Snider’s alleged wrongful possession of the dog. Snider responded that they were joint owners and counterclaimed for a judgment declaring that it was best for all concerned for Django to remain in her sole possession. Django had been in Snider’s exclusive care for nearly two years before the case and, by all accounts, was loved, happy, and healthy.
